My Top 5 For KC BBQ

Kansas Citians are known for their love of barbeque. Smoked meats, dry rubs, or all sauced up, Kansas City knows their BBQ! When visitors come to KC for that sweet taste of melt-in-your-mouth, hot-off-the-grill, flame-kissed meat, then it becomes a question of where to go to appease your appetite. If true Kansas City ‘que is what you’re looking for then steer clear of the chain restaurants and head to where the locals eat! Here’s a list of my top 5 favorite barbeque joints in Kansas City.

#1 Fiorella’s Jack Stack
Boasting 4 Kansas City locations, Jack Stack serves up their famous offerings complete with delicious sides and mouthwatering appetizers. Whether you’re looking for a great date night, or just grabbing some take out, Jack Stack won’t disappoint. Of the four locations, my personal favorite is the one located right behind Union Station as it has an excellent view, great parking, exceptional staff, and of course, delicious food!
My Top Picks: Fire-Kissed Wings (appetizer), The Roundup (perfect for dates!), Cheesy Corn Bake and Hickory Pit Beans (sides).

#2 Oklahoma Joe’s
Don’t let the fact that this restaurant is operated out of a gas station deter you. There’s so much to love at Oklahoma Joe’s that you’ll need to come back every day of the week to satisfy your cravings! Come early as their food is widely known for being awesome and the line can get long fast, but it’s always well worth the wait. You can find an Oklahoma Joe’s in Leawood, Olathe, and Kansas City just across the Kansas line. My Top Picks: The Z-Man sandwich with fries and slaw.

#3 Smokehouse
Smokehouse was one of my first KC barbeque loves when I transplanted from Omaha and their amazing smoky flavor still makes my mouth water. Of their 4 area locations, my favorite is located in Gladstone. It has that good “local” feel and you walk out with the aroma of great barbeque clinging to you. Yum! Like any true barbeque place, it’s nice and loud so it’s always a great place to bring kids. J
My Top Picks: Sweet Corn Nuggets (must-have appetizer!), Polish sausage, burnt ends, ham, and brisket are my favorite mainstays here (what can I say, it’s all so good!), Hickory Pit Beans (side dish – hands down the best beans you’ll ever have!)

#4 Smokebox
Smokebox not only offers delectable meats and rich sauces, but it also has a great location right off I-29 by Tiffany Springs Parkway. Plus, their carry-out is super fast! My favorite part of a meal from Smokebox is their spicy pickle slices, tangy sauce, and, of course, their meat selection.
My Top Picks: Brisket and Burnt Ends with Sweet Potato Fries

#5 Arthur Bryant’s
It just doesn’t get any more “local” than the famous Arthur Bryant’s. Though it’s original restaurant is located downtown KC, I’m a fan of the one that sits next to the KC Speedway out in Legends. Their hot fries are fantastic and so is their service!
My Top Picks: Pulled pork sandwich with potato salad

When it comes to barbeque, Kansas City’s got it made! Whether you’re looking for a special date night, dinner with the kids, or grabbing lunch to go, Kansas City barbeque offers it all.
